  5. My name is Sophia Owusu. I am a young woman with growing interest in multi-cultural developments and social change. I have a bachelor’s degree in communication studies (journalism option) and currently awaiting a masters degree in development communication.
I work remotely for an online company as a journalist. As part of my duties, I have published a number of stories that border on climate action and animal protection among other things.
Growing up, I have come to realize how risky it is for people to be raised in a world where it is almost impossible to predict the climate as it used to be centuries ago. Climate changes affect every single aspect of life. Most farmers whose crops are mostly rain-fed are disappointed almost every time the rains fail to come in the so-called rainy season. Wild life is also endangered right in their habitat due to the unfavourable climatic conditions they are subjected to.
Not only does the issue of climate change limit socio-economic activities, it also influences lifestyle. I’ll share a personal experience. As a young mother, I have have adopted the habit of carrying an umbrellas, pairs of sunglasses and hats for myself and my daughter each time we have to go out. This way, whether the day turns out sunny or rainy, we are both covered.
I deem it a great opportunity to be part of this noble team on climate change where I can utilize my skills to the fullest ability to help save the earth. I know that beyond getting a reward for my effort, it will be an opportunity to make a priceless sacrifice for this and other generations yet to be born.
Thank you for your kindness consideration.
